AI is transforming the workplace by automating routine tasks, fostering creativity, managing administrative duties, and providing valuable insights for better decision-making.
Many students have voiced a concern about AI in the workplace, which could lead to job displacement in some areas. But AI can also likely lead to creating new roles that require different skills. One way to future-proof the job search is to focus on continuous learning and uniquely human skills that AI cannot replace.
Although it’s true that some jobs will be displaced by AI, particularly in entry-level positions, automation, and some administrative roles, there will also be job growth. AI will also usher in new job creation. Those in our School of Technology, and all degree programs, should be learning more about AI in the workplace and how they can now be part of this reality. AI will not take the jobs away, but people who have embraced AI will.
AI is not something to fear, but to embrace—responsibly. By learning to understand and engage this innovative technology, students can free up time to focus on innovation, building relationships, and advancing their careers, especially career changers. Most career and technology professionals advise that AI enhances the workplace and workers, not replaces them. Now is the time for all of us to ensure that we use a “high-tech, high-touch” mentality; that we use AI ethically so that we can use good human judgment in areas such as leadership, creativity, and long-term strategic planning.
