WGU Career & Professional Development (CPD) is a service dedicated to supporting WGU students and alumni in achieving their career goals. We provide resources, coaching, and tools to assist in career exploration, job searching, resume building, interview preparation, and professional networking. We also collaborate with employers seeking to connect with WGU talent.

Our services are available to current WGU students, recent graduates, and alumni, as well as employers interested in connecting with WGU’s skilled workforce.

No! All CPD services are provided at no additional cost to WGU students and alumni. Additionally, we provide free services for our employers looking to recruit WGU talent.

Services for Students & Alumni

Our career coaches provide one-on-one support in career exploration, goal setting, job search strategies, resume and LinkedIn profile review, interview preparation, and more. They work with you to create a personalized plan based on your unique career goals.

  • You can schedule a career coaching session by going to our appointment link here: https://wgu.onl/CPDScheduling. Our appointments do book out, however, we do offer same day appointment availability. Please check the scheduling link above for availability.
  • If you have a quick question that doesn’t require a full appointment, please feel free to email us at careers@wgu.edu or call us 877-214-7008 and leave us a voicemail. An advisor will respond within 1 business day. 

CPD provides a variety of job search resources, including access to WGU Handshake (our job board), tools to help you build your professional brand with assets like resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles, as well as virtual career workshops and networking guidance. We also host virtual employer events, such as information sessions and company-specific hiring events, offering valuable opportunities to connect with fellow students, alumni, and employers.

While CPD cannot write your application materials for you, we offer a variety of resources to help you understand best practices for resumes, cover letters, and other personal brand assets.

  • Our Resume page provides access to live resume workshops, downloadable industry-specific resume templates, and a comprehensive resume course.
  • After completing the course, you can request a personalized resume review. Similarly, on our Cover Letter page, you’ll find guidelines, sample cover letters, and a brief video on best practices. Once drafted, you can submit your cover letter for professional feedback.
  • Additionally, we offer tools and guidance to help you refine your portfolio and LinkedIn profile to align with your career goals. These assets should work together to present a cohesive and compelling personal brand.

Yes! CPD facilitates networking through company specific hiring events, employer information sessions, industry panels and alumni events. Additionally, we provide guidance on leveraging LinkedIn and other networking tools.

Absolutely! Whether you’re looking to change industries, advance in your current field, or pursue a new career path, our career coaches are here to support you with transition strategies, skill assessments, and career planning resources.

Services for Employers

Employers can connect with WGU talent by posting job and internship opportunities on Handshake, participating in career connection and recruitment events such as, hosting virtual employer information sessions, industry panels, and company specific hiring events. WGU Handshake is an online career platform that allows employers to post job and internship listings and directly connect with WGU students and alumni.
