About the Internship
Are you a student exploring a future career in orthodontics or dental assisting? Our Pre-Orthodontic Dental Assistant Internship offers a hands-on learning experience in a orthodontic practice, where you’ll gain valuable exposure to clinical workflows, patient care, and orthodontic procedures.
This structured program is ideal for students considering a dental assistant certification, orthodontic assisting pathway, or future studies in dental specialties. Interns will train closely with experienced orthodontic assistants and orthodontists, growing their knowledge, confidence, and practical skills throughout the summer.
Program Structure
Duration: May 20 – August 15, 2025
Orientation: Mandatory full-day orientation on May 20
Time Commitment: Interns must attend regularly and may not miss more than 5 days over the course of the internship
Training: Includes 2–3 weeks of initial hands-on training in orthodontic assisting basics
Supervision: Daily mentorship from experienced orthodontic assistants and orthodontists
Key Responsibilities
Patient Preparation & Support: Welcome and prepare patients for orthodontic appointments, explain procedures in child-friendly terms, and provide reassurance throughout the visit.
Sterilization & Infection Control: Maintain a clean and safe environment by following rigorous sterilization protocols for instruments and operatories.
Clinical Set-Up: Help set up trays and rooms for orthodontic procedures and assist in taking orthodontic records (photos, digital scans, X-rays, etc.).
Office Support: Support the office with a variety of tasks including inventory, charting, confirming appointments, and upholding the cleanliness of the office
Skills You’ll Develop
Communication: Learn how to communicate with young patients and parents in a way that is clear, compassionate, and calming.
Time Management: Develop the ability to manage room turnover, assist multiple providers, and maintain flow in a busy office environment.
Digital Dental Technology: Work with digital X-ray machines, intraoral scanners, charting software, and scheduling tools commonly used in modern orthodontic practices.
