The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) offers a valuable pathway for students and recent graduates with disabilities to explore job opportunities within federal agencies and select private-sector employers. The program, coordinated by the U.S. Departments of Labor and Defense, is designed to connect motivated individuals with disabilities with employers for summer or permanent positions, allowing candidates to showcase their skills and commitment in professional settings.
Who Can Participate?
WRP is open to all college students and recent graduates with disabilities across all degree levels and majors, including veterans with disabilities. To qualify, applicants must:
- Have a disability and meet eligibility under the Schedule A hiring authority.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be enrolled full-time in a degree program or have recently graduated.
Program Benefits
Successful WRP participants are entered into a national database, accessible by federal agencies seeking to hire qualified candidates. This database allows federal and select private-sector employers to contact WRP participants directly, potentially eliminating the need for candidates to apply for each individual position.
How to Apply
To participate in WRP, candidates should:
- Register on the WRP website by the specified date and select Western Governors University (WGU) as their school. Career & Professional Development staff at WGU will approve registrations.
- Complete the WRP Application, which includes providing academic information, uploading a resume, and submitting an unofficial transcript.
Next Steps
Candidates who complete the application may be added to the WRP database, which is accessible to federal employers in December. Additionally, eligible candidates may opt for an informational interview with a WRP recruiter, available to a limited number of participants.
For more details, including participating employers and frequently asked questions, visit the WRP website or contact WGU’s Career & Professional Development office.
